President’s Message – May 2022

May 10, 2022

Dear Merchants, Business Owners, and Fellow Members:

The Chamber had a fine April Luncheon at Corner Galley this past meeting and we thank Gerry and Rusty for being as usual fine hosts. Our guest speaker Pete Fasulo was also well received and the attendees enjoyed his presentation on speaking at business meetings. Thanks to Robert Zabbia for setting him up as our guest for the day.

Our next meeting will be a breakfast meeting on Thursday May 19 at the Nautilus Diner and our guest Speaker will be NY State Assemblyman Mike Durso to update us all on the goings on in Albany and the effects of the decisions made with the new budget and other issues that may impact local business. We ask all to attend and support this event as usual.

The following week the Chamber and many other groups will be represented at the Massapequa Park Memorial Day Parade with our usual contingency. Please keep an eye out for details on where to meet us and join the contingency.

We had our elections at the Corner Galley Luncheon and the recommended slate got in and my congratulations to our new team that will be leading the Chamber for the new fiscal year.

After the parade we will have our Chamber Festival on lower Broadway as always and thanks to our Chairman Past President Tony Ventiera who does a great job along with Shelley each and every year. We look forward to seeing all this day and we ask all our members to support this event in some way.

My veterans committee Chairman Sal Polito has been writing an article under the Chamber name and it has been well received by the veteran’s organizations in the community. It is in the Massapequa Post monthly and please read it and keep any veterans who need info in touch with Sal as he will assist them.

Our June Installation of Officers will be Thursday June 16 at the Massapequa American Legion at 6:00 P.M. More details will follow as this event gets closer. This will suffice for the June meeting as well.

I would like to congratulate Maria Romer Guzzetta on her recent election to the Board. She will be a great addition. Our thanks as well to Past President Phyllis Doria for all her years of service to our Chamber as she is stepping down from the Board and will eventually be relocating to Florida.

There was some sad news in the community with some of our members recently as Councilman Thomas Hand lost his Mother Carolyn and Tobay Receiver of Taxes Jeffrey Pravato and his wife Jennifer lost Jen’s Mother Esther and Amy Recco of Friends for Life lost her Mom Sharon as well. This all happened within days of each other and I ask all to keep the people mentioned and their families in their prayers. We all know how it feels to lose someone close and we ask all to pray for their strength at this time.

Finally, do not forget to go to Field of Dreams and look at the new Chamber welcoming sign at the corner of County Line and Merrick Road. It looks great and our thanks to Past President Patty Orzano and the Town Supervisor Joe Saladino for getting this done.

That’s it for now.

Keith Wilson, President
Massapequa Chamber of Commerce
