We are winding down the year and entering the holiday season. This is a time of celebrating with family, remembering those we lost in the past year, and thanking all of those who helped us throughout the year. Families travel great distances to come together across all faiths, and it is such a great time.
The kids look forward to the winter break, presents…and mine loved seeing the lights on the houses that made our community even nicer. College students are returning home from their campuses, and many parents are happy to be together again after being away from them for the past few months.
Our local businesses have come together again to help decorate the community – with decorations on most of our major streets donated by our merchants, storeowners decorating their own businesses, and of course our Christmas Trees and Menorahs in Massapequa and Massapequa Park. Both communities had very successful and well-attended lighting ceremonies again this year, and it is so much fun seeing the children come out to perform and get a photo with Santa.
Without our sponsors, we wouldn’t be able to hold the Christmas Tree and Menorah Lighting, or decorate our community, so a special thank you to Dairy Queen for being our Main Event Sponsor; Allstate, Massapequa Imaging, and TD Bank for being our Platinum Light Sponsors; Genstar Masonry for being our Gold Star Sponsor; and Apple Bank for being our Silver Bell Sponsor; along with all of the other sponsors who helped out.
I want to thank my fellow Board and Chamber members for helping us have a successful 2022 as a Chamber. We have put in place many new programs to help our local merchants and improve our community. The local governments have also really come together to help us achieve our goals, with much support over many years. The Street Fair and Christmas Tree and Menorah Lighting couldn’t be done without the help and support of the Town of Oyster Bay and Nassau County, especially the Police Department and the Auxiliary Police.
In January, we will be holding a Lunch and Learn at Sergio’s with Special Guest Speaker Maria Romer-Guzzetta talking about “out of the box” networking. Maria is one of the best networkers I know, and I am looking to learn a few more tricks from her. In February, we will be honoring our local firefighters at a luncheon, so watch out for our announcements, and come out and support them.
Massapequa is a very special place, made up of many smaller communities, with a huge Holiday Spirit. The Chamber of Commerce and I wish all of our residents a very Happy Holiday and Healthy New Year!
